This place is accepted to be the fortress of the Caribbean Pirates. The modern and clean city always contains an element of mystery within itself. Even though the unit of currency is Bahama Dollars, you can easily use US Dollars in the streets; but if you don’t make sure that you get the change in American Dollars, when you get home you can have full of Bahama Dollars to put an album and keep it forever. In a closed place, there is a bazaar that draws my attention in the harbour. In the middle of this lively, colourful and very hard to understand staff and with the company of joyfull attitude and hospitality of the ladies from Bahamas, a person would never be convinced to shop less.
At the very end of the bazaar, you should forget all your plans and follow the path where the music fills. Yes, it is a Latin American classic, Senior Frog. At nightfall, it’s now a tradition to chat with the tourists who came from different countries of the world, by the company of the cocktails that you have never tried before. If you are interested, there are some performances from one world famous DJ to another. Bartenders are making more and more creative cocktails in every minute and the dancers seducing everyone around them.
I’m heading to Hotel Atlantis Paradise Island with the ferries that transports tourists right in front of Senior Frog in every 15 minutes. Don’t make yourself believe to go right in your hotel room, because this place also contains lots of elements to explore, like Bahamas. You can dive in the largest aquarium of the region. It’s an underwater city. If you are uncomfortable to hang around between stingray fish, sharks and different types of sea creatures, you can watch these creatures from the loby.
I had a very hard time to go to the beach in the morning. This is a really huge hotel, almost like the fortress of the pirates. Unfortunately, it has a lot of interesting staff in it. For example, the Casino made me forced not to go to the beach this morning. It has richness that is equally good as Las Vegas; like big, colourfull glass candy.
When i finally went to the beach, it was already past noon. The sea is unbearably beautiful. The beach of the hotel is sharing its view with lots of large and small islands. Most of the islands are private property. You can never be too classy dressed fort his placed. After we finished our preperations fort he evening, we are heading to Nassau to have diner. In the transport ship, a local Bahamian middle aged gentleman tells us about the celebrities who live on the islands around.
I’m very close to have Conch, a Bahamian worldwide famous dish that i am dreaming about since the first minute of my arrival. Conch is a sea shell dish. Anyone who cooks this food, adds whatever they want in it and serve it with different types of sauce. As i walk, a place that a lot of collectors admire and homeland of the rock music lovers , caught my eye; Hard Rock Cafe. A lot of musicians and bands leave their memories here, that was really impressive.
In the back alleys of the city, a Greek restaurant grabbed my attention. As i enter the place, a well cut-haired, nicely-shaved old man, welcomed me in a very sincere and cheerfull attitude. Mr. Niko is a Greek gentleman from Nicosia who manages this restaurant with his children and grandchilden. He doesn’t give you the chance to refuse the offer of cinnamon baklava and Greek coffee on the house. He told some stories from his childhood in Cyprus, as he remembered and i listened carefully and respectively. After a couple of hours, i found myself backed down from Conch, having a joyfull conversation with Mr. Niko and his sons, in company with ouzo, kebab and horiatiki.
It doesn’t matter how many days you have spent in here. As you leave this place; you will hear this joyfull and romantic Spanish melodies in your ears, you will see the flames that burned in the beaches and dancing people in your minds. Don’t say i wish i hadn’t left my heart in a place this far instead of Aegean or Meditteranian. You will come to Nassau again.
